John McWhorter is a renowned linguist and bestselling author. He teaches linguistics, philosophy, and music history at Columbia University, writes a biweekly column at The New York Times, and is a contributing editor at The Atlantic. He also hosts the Lexicon Valley language podcast and is a regular guest on The Glenn Show, a podcast about economic, political, and social issues with Glenn Loury.

McWhorter has authored over 20 books, including most recently Woke Racism: How a New Religion Has Betrayed Black America (October 2021) and the New York Times bestseller Nine Nasty Words: English in the Gutter: Then, Now, and Forever (May 2021). His writing has been published in The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, Time, The Daily Beast, The New Republic, The Root, and many other venues. He has also created five courses for The Great Courses company on language and linguistics.

He holds a B.A. in French from Rutgers University, an M.A. in American studies from New York University, and a Ph.D. in linguistics from Stanford.

Because all languages are and have always been in a state of continual transformation, anything we see in a language today is the result of change.
