Charles writes about: Economics, Health, Optimism

Charles Kenny is an optimist about global progress and its positive impact on America. After 15 years as an economist at the World Bank, he now works at the Washington, DC–based think tank the Center for Global Development, where he researches and advocates for policies governing investment, trade, technology and migration that would be good for both developing and industrialized countries alike.

Kenny has published widely on issues including what we know about the causes of economic growth, the link between economic growth and broader development, the causes of improvements in global health, the link between economic growth and happiness, and progress toward the Millennium Development Goals. He is the author or coauthor of 5 books, including Getting Better: Why Global Development is Succeeding and How We Can Improve the World Even More and The Upside of Down: Why the Rise of the Rest is Great for the West.

Especially when it comes to innovation, a richer planet is a richer, healthier, and happier America.
