Roy writes about: Business, Technology, Work

The technological advances of tomorrow will profoundly change the world of business. As head of early-stage venture firm Bloomberg Beta, Roy Bahat invests in startups that make work better. The firm focuses on machine intelligence—investing in companies working on applying machine intelligence to businesses and society, creating an annual landscape of machine intelligence companies, and studying the effects of AI on work 10–20 years out with the Shift Commission.

Bahat is the organizer behind Comeback Cities, where he leads groups of venture capitalists and members of Congress on bus tours to find the untapped beds of talent and entrepreneurship in America. He is a commissioner on the California Governor’s Future of Work Commission and is on the board or an advisor to several nonprofits, including Stanford’s Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society and the Economic Security Project.

He has spent time building startups from day zero, as a corporate executive (at News Corporation), in government (at the office of the New York City Mayor), media, and academia (as a lecturer at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business). He is one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business. He graduated from Harvard College and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.

Many want to slow technology, even stop it. That would be foolish—though we can direct the way it unfolds. The time to do that is now.
