Heather McGhee is an author, speaker, and advocate who designs and promotes solutions to inequality in America. Her book The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together is a New York Times bestseller, and her 2020 TED Talk, “Racism Has a Cost for Everyone,” garnered a million views in just two months.
For nearly two decades, Heather helped build Demos, a non-partisan “think and do” tank powering the movement for a just, inclusive, and multiracial democracy. She has testified in Congress, drafted legislation, and developed strategies that have won changes to improve the lives of millions.
Heather is the chair of the board for the US civil rights advocacy organization Color of Change. She also volunteers for numerous philanthropy and social justice boards and makes regular media appearances to elevate the concerns of working families.
