Gregg
Easterbrook

Author, journalist

Gregg writes about: Optimism, Politics, Society

A self-described “cynical optimist” and prolific journalist, Gregg Easterbrook writes about everything from politics to sports. He is the author of 11 books, notably the bestseller The Progress Paradox, which examined why the world is getting better although we feel it’s getting worse, and his latest, It’s Better Than It Looks: Reasons for Optimism in an Age of Fear. (Those reasons include less violence and discrimination, rising standards of living, and available, practical solutions to climate change.)

Easterbrook has been a staff writer, national correspondent, or contributing editor for The Atlantic for nearly 40 years, as well as the “Tuesday Morning Quarterback” behind the long-running football column. He has also written for the New Yorker, the Los Angeles Times, Wired, the Wall Street Journal, and many other publications. In 2017 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

We need a revival of optimism.
